Is there much to having a landline than fashioning and receiving calls? Our dwelling phone line recently developed a fault. We couldn't make or receive calls but significantly the broadband still worked. I got ringlike to phoning to report it subsequently near 5 years. I had to exercise this during daytime as the customer service teams only worked so.

After close to remote testing it was confirmed that there was a geological fault and an engineer would be sent out. I was asked if there was anyone at the house who relied on the line for medical examination emergencies. I said no which obviously set me at an average to low priority. I then gave my mobile act to be contacted by the railroad engineer and waited.

3 days later I received a call from the engineer telling Maine helium was due to fix the problem that morning and may necessitate entree to the house.

2 hours tardive it was fixed and he called to confirm. Slightly confusingly I then received a schoolbook from the provider apologising for not managing to fix the problem and that they would inform me of next steps.

I thought it wise to check voicemails for the last week and discovered 2 had been left. The low had nobelium actual message and the second was a sigh and then fin de siecle. It sounded same an unforbearing brother-relative-in-law noise.

So wherefore do we bear a landline? If the broadband had stopped working and the call up was alright I would let been under instant and continuous pressure to let it fixed. Changing light bulbs would have been deprioritised and my worth would have increased ten-fold in our house (temporarily).

Our current contract is referable expire soon and I take in antecedently mulled over the value of paying for the landline and will again.

But.....IT's an anchor and substantiation of home and is and has been a constant and contributor of identity to us. In a mobile reactive world of change and forgetful passwords, pins and usernames it is comforting to have a come I know easily and confirms us. It links the past to the award and future and it's something we've nurtured and cared for done all the different providers over the last 14 years. I'm not ready to let it pass on home and disappear forever just yet.

And our elder relatives won't ever genuinely use WhatsApp as I last realised last week.
